“La Cruz neighborhood”
was missing a space where artists from different artistic backgrounds could create literature, a place where books meet ingenuity and the personal experiences of each individual dreamer could be expressed. This community faces, despite the work that has been done, social and psychological problems with violence, lack of employment and academical opportunities. A space where people can enhance their skills and reflect on their own transformation and that of others’ is therefore essential.
This library that functions as a place of protection
and learning for children, young people and adults where they can learn to read and write. It also offers artistic workshops such as photography, hip hop composition and urban planting, as well as psychiatric support. The library was also created to make up for the lack of cultural spaces in the neighbourhood.
The main priority for Sueños de Papel
is to keep the space available and operating. This is a safe space for the 100 kids and teenagers that are being protected from the violence of the area by their activities. We want to help them to own the house or be able to cover the rent for a year.
